CIMA is perceived as the most relevant Accounting qualification for business with CIMA professionals working throughout industry, not-for- profit and public sector organisations. It is not just an Accounting qualification, but also covers business management making CIMA professionals capable of driving the Business Strategy of organisations.

The BA (Hons) International Business and Finance from UWS, offered by ICBS is eligible for 11 exemptions, the maximum exemptions awarded by CIMA for any Undergraduate Degree programme. Students will then need to attempt the final 5 examinations to complete the qualification.

Entry route to CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting

Open to All - Entry into the CIMA CBA (Certificate in Business Accounting) is open to all, regardless of your financial knowledge. All you require is a passion to succeed in business and be competent in mathematics and the English language.

Exemptions

Depending on the prior learning of students, students may be eligible for exemptions from some of the CIMA exams. Examinations

Examinations for CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting are computer based and are held throughout the year, examinations for the CIMA Professional Qualification are held four times a year, in February, May, August and November. CERTIFICATE IN BUSINESS ACCOUNTING

The CIMA certificate in business accounting is CIMA's own entry route to the CIMA professional qualification. You may be exempted from some or all certificate papers if you have a relevant degree, have completed the AAT Technician stage, or have studied another professional accounting qualification. Your degree or accounting qualification may also exempt you from some operational and management level papers.

BA1 Fundamentals of Economics

BA1 focuses on the economic and operating context of business and how the factors of competition, the behaviour of financial markets and government economic policy can influence an organisation. It also deals with the information available to assist management in evaluating and forecasting the behaviour of consumers, markets and the economy in general

Students will gain an understanding of the areas of economic activity relevant to an organisation’s decisions and, within this context, the numerical techniques to support such decisions

BA2 Fundamentals of Management Accounting

BA2 teaches students fundamental knowledge and techniques that underpin management accounting. It identifies the position of the management accountant within organisations and the role of CIMA. The subject portrays the role of management accounting in the contexts of commercial and public sector bodies and its wider role in society.

BA3 Fundamentals of Financial Economics

In BA3 students will obtain a practical understanding of financial accounting and the process behind the preparation of financial statements for single entities.

These statements are prepared within a conceptual and regulatory framework requiring an understanding of the role of legislation and of accounting standards. The need to understand and apply necessary controls for accounting systems, and the nature of errors is also covered. There is an introduction to measuring financial performance with the calculation of basic ratios.

BA4 Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business Law

In BA4 students will gain an understanding of the professional standards to be demonstrated for the benefit of all stakeholders. With this in mind, the place of ethics and ethical conflict is an essential underpinning for commercial activity. It includes the role of corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and audit; and their increasing impact in the management of organisations. Wherever business is conducted the legal and administrative framework underpins commercial activity. With this in mind the areas of contract law, employment law, administration and management of companies is considered.

Accountant in Business (F1)

To introduce knowledge and understanding of the business and its environment and the influence this has on how organisations are structured and on the role of the accounting and other key business functions in contributing to the efficient, effective and ethical management and development of an organisation and its people and systems.

Management Accounting (F2)

To develop knowledge and understanding of how to prepare and process basic cost and quantitative information to support management in planning and decision-making in a variety of business contexts.

Financial Accounting (F3)

To develop knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles and concepts relating to financial accounting and technical proficiency in the use of double-entry accounting techniques including the preparation of basic financial statements.

FUNDAMENTALS – Skills Level

Corporate and Business Law (SGP) (F4)

To develop knowledge and skills in the understanding of the general legal framework, and of specific legal areas relating to business, recognizing the need to seek further specialist legal advice where necessary.

Performance Management (F5)

BSC (HONS) APPLIED ACCOUNTING (OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY IN CONJUNCTION WITH ACCA)

Awarded By Oxford Brookes University, U.K.


Students studying for their ACCA qualification now have the opportunity to obtain a degree from Oxford Brookes University, a recognised and highly respected UK university. The degree is the same as awarded to on-campus students in U.K

The BSc degree aims to enhance and extend the knowledge and skills you gain in your ACCA professional studies and to improve your effectiveness as a professional accountancy student and future finance professional.

This Degree pathway enables ACCA students to obtain an Oxford Brookes degree, BSc(Honors) in Applied Accounting, provided the student meets the following ADMISSION, EXEMPTIONS and ELIGIBILITY, PART 1 AND PART 2, requirements and successfully complete the Research and Analysis Project (RAP) and the online Professional Ethics module.


The minimum academic entry requirements for registering on the BSc degree are:

  • 2 ‘A’ levels plus 3 GCE ‘O’ levels including Mathematics and English
  • Oxford Brookes University recognises a number of other qualifications which satisfy the minimum English Language requirement, including a pass in Paper F4 Corporate & Business Law prior to attempting Papers F7, F8 & F9
  • Students who do not have an acceptable English Language qualification, will be permitted to register for the BSc degree only after they have passed Paper 4 Corporate & Business Law.
  • If you are a CAT student who has passed the CAT Advanced Level exam papers, you meet all the entry require-ments for the BSc Degree.

EXEMPTION

As a registered student, you may be given exemptions from one or more of the 9 ACCA specified exam papers. Oxford Brookes University will give credits for exemptions by ACCA for any of Papers F1-F6. However, if you wish to enroll and be awarded the BSc degree you must sit and pass all of the 3 ACCA subjects F7, F8 & F9.

No exemptions can be given from the Professional Ethics Module or from the Oxford Brookes University Research and Analysis Project.


ELIGIBILITY

PART 1

Opted-in to the programme An ACCA student is automatically registered with Oxford Brookes University for the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting, unless you opted-out of the BSc degree programme at the time of initial registration with ACCA. If you have opted-out, you may re-register for the BSc degree scheme BEFORE you attempt examinations and pass any of the three subjects – F7, F8 and F9. If you have passed any one of these three subjects you cannot register onto the BSc degree

PART 2

To be attempted after meeting the above requirements

Complete the ACCA Professional Ethics Module before its deadline you will gain access to the Professional Ethics module via myACCA as soon as you become eligible to take Paper P1, Professional Accountant.

Complete and pass the Oxford Brookes University Research and Analysis Project (RAP) The degree must be completed within 10 years of your initial registration onto the ACCA’s professional qualification otherwise your eligibility will be withdrawn.


ASSESSMENT OF RESEARCH & ANALYSIS PROJECTS

RAP consists of two separate documents: 6,500 words Research Report (RR) and 2,000 words Skills and Learning Statement (SLS). To pass the RAP the student must pass both Research Report and Skills and Learning Statement.

The students are given 3 attempts to pass the RAP. The student can either submit the same project topic three times or three different RAPs. Unfortunately, if the students fail the RAP on three separate occasions, they will no longer be eligible to complete the BSc degree.


STAGE ONE

Research and Analysis Project Seminar by Imperial College Specialist Lecturer.

The seminar will cover:

  • Introduction and pre-requisites for the 6500-word RAP and the 2,000-word SLS
  • Choosing a suitable topic
  • Communication and preparing and for mentor meetings and the role of the mentor
  • Research Methods – Primary and Secondary Research
  • Information Gathering
  • Analysis of information
  • Conclusion and report writing
  • Writing the Skills & Learning Statement (SLS)
  • Referencing and basic IT skills
  • Report presentation
  • Submission procedures

STAGE TWO

Mentorship Programme (face-to- face meeting + flexible timing) 3 meetings between student and mentor (30 minutes each session) and email support. Student can arrange a suitable time with their mentor for all three meetings.

  • To provide support for students in the preparation of their project
  • To give advice on presentation of the project

The BA (Hons) degree operations within the School of Business and Enterprise at the University of the West of Scotland. MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (International Business)

The MBA programme has been structured with the aim of providing students with the knowledge and practice of strategic leadership and people management. Hence, Sri Lankan students will be granted the opportunity of obtaining a world-class MBA, which will give them the edge in binding global opportunities.

Classes will be conducted, either 3 weekdays evenings allowing those who want to study on week days or only on Sundays for those who prefer to study on weekend, as per their convenience. The lecture sessions will be conducted by an eminent panel of academics and professionals including senior professors, doctorates, university lecturers and industry experts to give both theoretical and practical aspects of the subjects taught.
